Saint Paul’s historic Landmark Center will be the site of a very special Vietnamese cultural celebration: A Harvest Moon Lantern Festival, on Sunday September 14, 2008 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm. Admission is free.

Everyone is invited to come and create their own lantern out of bamboo or origami papers, design a miniature storybook that tells the Vietnamese legend of the moon and enjoy a meal of Vietnamese foods (available for purchase) - even Moon Cakes! - a festival tradition. Hear folk tales told by storytellers and get information about local Vietnamese cultural and civic agencies. As the sun sets outside, hang a “light” in your lantern and proceed outside to Rice Park (weather permitting) for a traditional Lantern Parade at dusk. This lively foot parade will wind its way through the park and conclude at Landmark Center.

Families are encouraged to attend and craft their lanterns together. The Harvest Moon Festival is being presented by Minnesota Landmarks and is sponsored, in part, by the Friends of The Saint Paul Public Library.
