Mama Loshn: Inspired By Yiddish, an Exhibit at the Tychman Shapiro Gallery

Prints by Massachusetts artist Debra Olin in the Tychman Shapiro Gallery at the Sabes JCC in St. Louis Park. Opening Reception: September 11, 6-8 p.m.
Inspired by Yiddish language and culture, developed thorough connection to history, folklore, songs and literature. Mama Loshn means Mother Tongue and another name for Yiddish.
Yiddish was called Mama Loshn because it was the language of the home and also the language that was associated with women, as opposed to Hebrew (Sacred Tongue) which was the language men used for prayer.

Artist talk at 6:30 p.m.
Refreshments and live Klezmer music in the lobby by Classic Klezmer, an ensemble with Judith Eisner and Stu Janis. Debra Olin will share more about her work at a artist talk.
September 14, 2–4 p.m. The Yiddish Vinkl presents:
A Musical Extravaganza
An extraordinary program of music, yiddishkeit, friendship and refreshments. Program concludes with a gallery tour of Mama Loshn: Inspired by Yiddish. Fee: $3.
October 23, 6–8 p.m., Yiddish Words and Phrases
An informal and fun way to learn or brush up on your Yiddish. Taught by Sol Awend. Please RSVP to Robyn Awend (rawend@sabesjcc.org or 952.381.3416) by October 20
