Learn about ways to landscape around your house to save energy and reduce stormwater runoff. Landscaper Douglas Owens-Pike will share slides, design tips and plant species information on the best trees and shrubs for planting that provide
cooling as well as wind protection in winter. Bring in a plan of your yard. Compare and contrast the sun’s height and angles from summer to winter on the yard model provided by Tree Trust. Mr. Owens-Pike has a Master of Science degree in Plant Ecology from the University of Washington. He is an active member the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association (MNLA). He has received several awards for his designs, including being named 1997 Ecopreneur of the Year by the MN Environmental initiative. In February 2004, Douglas was a featured speaker at a conference for professionals, "Creating Healthy Ecosystems on Suburban Lots."
