If you are looking for a fun and enjoyable play then the Old Log Theater’s presentation of “Unnecessary Farce” is for you.
The play, centered on a police sting operation in which two rookie cops are sent to a hotel room to videotape a meeting between an accountant and the town’s mayor, will have you laughing throughout.
Cops Eric Sheridan (Sean Micheal Dooley) and Billie Dwyer (Erin Noel Grennan) struggle to do anything right, including run the video equipment.
Jumping back and forth between the two adjoining hotel rooms, seven characters and eight doors, the action never slows down as the two cops learn that the town is run by the mob, the Scottish Clan, and that the hit man for the Clan never does any work before playing his bagpipes.
When the hit man shows up to talk to the accountant, the two cops struggle to decide what to do.
What follows is a lot of fun as you watch the two cops, the accountant, the hit man, the mayor and ‘Big Mac’ stumble around each trying not to get caught.
Paul Slade Smith wrote a clever and humorous play while Tom Stolz skillfully directs the action throughout the two-hour production.
“Unnecessary Farce” runs through Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009 at the Excelsior theater. Evening performances are Thursday through Saturdays at 8 p.m. with weekday matinees on Wednesday and Thursday at 1 p.m. Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m.
Ticket prices are $27 for Thursday and Sunday; $29 for Friday; $32 for Saturday and $19.50 for weekday matinees. For more information and tickets, call the Old Log Theater box office at (952) 474-5951 or visit www.oldlog.com.
